I am excited to let you know that I have written a new book about trauma, integrating my thinking and practice over the course of my career: Traumatic Experiences of Normal Development, published by Routledge and released in March, 2020. It presents a new understanding of what trauma is, a new psychoanalytic orientation (a trauma-based listening perspective) that recognizes the presence and effects of traumatic experiences of normal development, and a special focus on how those experiences manifest in the body. It addresses traumatic experiences of all kinds and examines how those incidents have roots in normal development and how they are significant factors in the development and persistence of such things as anxiety, depression, PTSD, addictions, eating disorders, affairs, and relational patterns. It enables us to recognize and understand the traumas we have experienced, how they show up in bodily experience, and how we can minimize the hold they have on us.
I am honored to have received the Award for Outstanding Practice, 2020, by The American Psychological Association (Division 56 – Trauma Psychology) “to celebrate you and your fantastic work for Trauma Psychology [and] your amazing contributions to the field.”
